The Canastota Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1891 by a group of citizens who believed that every community deserves reliable, courageous protection. Today, we remain exactly that — a brotherhood and sisterhood of neighbors who train together, respond together, and live together in the same community we serve.

We are not a municipal department. We are volunteers — teachers, mechanics, farmers, business owners, and retirees — who drop everything when the alarm sounds. Our station at 127 East Center Street has been a fixture in Canastota for generations, and our commitment to this town has never wavered.

Emergency Response

Structural fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and hazardous material incidents — we respond to whatever the night brings. Our apparatus and crew are stationed and ready around the clock.

Fire Prevention & Inspections

We conduct fire safety inspections for homes, businesses, and public buildings throughout Canastota. Prevention is always better than response — and we take it seriously.

Community Education

Fire safety demonstrations, CPR and first aid classes, and school visits — we believe an informed community is a safer community. We come to you.

Search & Rescue

From vehicle extrication to water rescue and search operations, our trained personnel are equipped and certified to handle the most demanding rescue scenarios.

Public Safety Events

Parades, fireworks displays, community festivals — we provide safety coverage and fire protection at Canastota's most cherished gatherings throughout the year.

Ambulance & EMS

Our volunteer EMTs and paramedics provide emergency medical services to Canastota and the surrounding communities, responding to calls with speed and compassion.

We don't just show up when the alarm sounds. We're at the youth football games, the high school graduations, the holiday parades, and the community fundraisers. We know the families we serve by name.
